Portugal and Brazil
The BANG Awards ? International Animation Competition, is a Luso-Brazilian collaboration. A project with universality and identity at its core, it is part of the commemorations of the ?Year of Portugal? in Brazil and the ?Year of Brazil? in Portugal.
The chosen theme, ?CrossWorlds?, represents the past and future connections between the two nations. A common past; a shared history; one language ? two peoples intimately intertwined ? Portugal and Brazil are a prime example of the ways in which the paths of different peoples have crossed and re-crossed over time throughout human history.
In this, the 2nd edition of the competition, the overall objective of the BANG Awards is to make key events in our shared history known using animated film and to bring new talents in Portugal, Brazil and the rest of the world into the spotlight.
In presenting this project through the lens of Portuguese speaking countries, we pay homage to not only our own history, but to a history repeated throughout the rest of the world. We mean to pass on a picture of modernity and innovation, of two countries unafraid to use the newest information and artistic technologies to acknowledge, explore and disseminate two histories and two cultures with so many points of contact.
In examining the superimposition of our views, our values, our identities, our different cultures, as well as other resources which promote cultural inclusivity, we are acting in favour of:
Portuguese-speaking nations
Cultural identity
Multiculturalism, art and creativity
Social inclusion
Digital inclusion
Giving due importance to friendly relations between Portugal and Brazil, held together by strong historical, familial and cultural ties, we are putting a knowledge of history forward for the use of both populations in the hope of promoting a deeper understanding of our origins.
